Why we started — and why it still matters

In the early 2000s, Akbar Khan was working as a Staff Nurse in Critical Care. He knew what good care looked like in a clinical setting. He also knew that for most families in Sheffield, finding that same standard of care at home was incredibly difficult.

Too many providers felt transactional. Carers rotated constantly. Families had to explain their loved one's needs again and again to different faces. The personal side — the trust, the consistency, the dignity — often got lost.

So in 2023, Akbar founded Delight Support Services. Not a franchise. Not a call centre. A Sheffield care company, built on the belief that the people you let into your home should feel like a consistent, familiar presence — not a rota of strangers.

More than two decades later, that belief hasn't changed.

Akbar began his career as a Staff Nurse in Critical Care, where he understood the human side of serious illness — the worry families carry, the importance of clear communication, and the value of calm, compassionate care.

He founded Delight Support to build a care company that is thorough, consistent, and genuinely personal. Today, he remains hands-on and involved when families have complex needs or specific concerns.

Lisa began her career as a care assistant and has spent 27 years working across all areas of care. She understands the importance of consistency, compassion, and delivering the highest standard of support to every family.

Today, Lisa leads the quality and safety of care at Delight, using decades of hands-on experience to guide carers and support clients with confidence and care.

Bonnie Johnson has over six years of experience in the care sector and holds an NVQ Level 3 in Adult Social Care. Her career was begun as a care worker, and she has progressively advanced while developing a strong foundation of knowledge, practical skills, and professional insight.

A strong passion is held for ensuring that every individual achieves the best possible quality of life, with care that is tailored to their needs, preferences, and dignity.
